“With Sword in Hand” prequel short story
All her life, Madel has been confined to the manoir grounds and surrounded by guardians due to the prophecy spoken at her birth.
In the normal way of things, she would be content to let her guardians fight for her, stop assassins for her, waylay supposed thieves and marauders, sense for poisons, and deflect spells meant to kill her.
But enough is enough. Even a cage made of companionship is still a cage.
The problem is, no one will let her fight or defend herself no matter how much she pleads for freedom.
Be careful of wishes. They just might come true. And show us more about life and love than we ever could have imagined.
A visceral short story about finding the power within–and within love. It takes place after the prologue in One True Lie, the first book in The Crown of Seasons series.
